Nutrition emergency response in conjunction with water, sanitation and health efforts are a key focus in addressing severe and moderate acute malnutrition in order to keep children and women as healthy as possible during this recovery and transition period. Kulsoom Ghani, Nurse, Pediatric Unit of Saidu Teaching Hospital, Swat District "Children in this district have long suffered because of conflict, continuous displacement and now the floods. Children are referred to this centre when they are diagnosed as malnourished with other health complications. We also help teach their mothers how to feed their children properly." That is why the international humanitarian community has been asked to support the response by covering gaps where the needs inevitably exceed the government's response capacity. And to help prepare the initial floods emergency response plan we are launching today." The UN says it would cover a 90-day period of immediate relief but would be revised within a month as the situation developed and more information came in.
